Uke FAQ

It is now easier than ever to buy your Ukulele online at Ukelele Sales and even have it delivered to your home.
If it is your first Ukulele there are some facts you should consider before you purchase your Uke.

Know the different Types of Ukuleles and there sizes as there are four main sizes such as the:
Soprano, Concert, Tenor and Baritone.
We Only stock the first three Sizes  Soprano, Concert, Tenor Only, We do not keep any baritone as they are the same 4 bottom strings as a guitar and about the size of a small guitar with 2 less strings fitted.

There are also different types of styles of Ukes, the most common style is the figure 8 Body which is what they are most famous for, there is also a pineapple style body that resembled a half cut pineapple shape, and there is also a cutaway style body which is basically a figure 8 style body with the bottom left hand corner reversed to cutaway in the front corner of the uke body, this allow for the hand to strum through to and open space when playin compared with the figure 8 style body they also look pretty cool.

If your serious about starting do not buy a real cheap uke, be prepared to spend for a Quality uke which wont cost you and arm and leg with us, The budget Ukes are great for getting started but once your into it you want to get a better uke which should cost you around the 80 to 110 dollar mark, which isnt much for a musical instrument.

Next you need to pick a prefered size.

Soprano Ukulele :

  • Total Length 21" (53cm)
  • Scale Length 13" (33cm)
  • No of Frets 12-14

these are the most popular sizes that people use and Ukes are know for. If you are buying a uke to join a uke club or to just play songs by there chords, this is the one to choose.

Concert Ukelele :

  • Total Length 23" (58cm)
  • Scale Length 15" (38cm)
  • No of Frets 14-17

These are larger than the soprano ukes and the frets are slightly bigger if you have larger fingers or are coming across from the guitar would make it an easier transition, they have more frets available to higher notes and give you the availability to play nearly all Uke Songs available. If you are buying a uke to join a uke club or to play songs by there chords and or notes to Tabulature, this is the one to choose. Also if you have big fingers this is easier to handle.

Tenor Ukelele :

  • Total Length 26" (66cm)
  • Scale Length 17" (43cm)

These are larger than the soprano and concert ukes and the frets are slightly larger again, if you have larger fingers or are coming across from the guitar this is a perfect choice, they do produce a bigger sound as the Body is larger, they have more frets available than the concert to play higher notes and give you the availability to play all Uke Songs available. This is the size uke you see most officianados playing in the youtube videos.
